Clicking on the playonlabs.net logo below will take you directly to the Plugin homepage.

There you will find descriptions, usages, health, known issues and a convenient auto-install plugin.

The exact same plugin is still available here on POPI for manual installation, for those who like to do it 'old school'.

Manual Installation:
Stop the PlayOn server and close the Settings Manager if open.

To install this plugin, simply place the ".plugin" file into "..\Program Files\MediaMall\plugins",
("..\Program Files (x86)\MediaMall\plugins\" in 64-bit versions).

Restart the server.

I hope you are sharing the code for your plugin with the folks at PlayOn. Your plugin worked, the file sharing "feature" in the new release of Playon won't play any of my files except for HD MP4s (which interestingly, your plugin wouldn't play.)

Thanks for all your work!

Back with the fix and some newly minted code, took a bit of work but hey, we gotta keep PlayOn motivated!  Grin

By the way, the new version for "Shared Files(beta)" is pretty cool.

Working perfectly. The Local media beta isn't as fleshed out, but is working quite nicely.

Everything I can throw at both the plugin and the beta sharing plays here, except flash (swf/flv).  I was even able to play MOV files directly off my camera (720p).  Might be a codec issue on your end?

Yeah, the plugin does not play swf but should have no problems with flv.

Merged topics "LocalFiles Plugin: Serves out video from disk" and "LocalFiles 1.0.0.10" to be one archive. There is lots of good development history in there so it seemed to make sense to combine them back under "Humans" initial post.

Hope this does not throw anyone off.

So I am using a fun combo. "LocalFiles" for video and "Media Sharing (Beta)" for music and pictures. Works Great! Thanks Playon!

"LocalFiles" IMHO is just a bit more polished at this point for videos.

What did I need Tversity for?

Agreed!  I was amazed that I can play my music and my pictures also.  A combination of both works great!  The only thing I need ORB for is to stream media to my PDA and laptop on the road.  I wonder if a plugin could allow PlayOn to stream media to remote devices....

ORB has a public internet site, and I doubt PlayOn would do the same so you can proxy out your content anytime soon, so perhaps we have to figure a way to do this on our own.

You could do this yourself if you were able to SSH / VPN into your network, then it would work just as if you're plugged right into the network itself.  I SSH tunnel into my network to get to my *nix boxes from work, but if you could figure a way to do this with some free VPN software out there, you could possibly do it.

Here are a few links I found that could be investigated:

Windows Based (didn't look to far into it to see if it would fit):

Not sure about this one, it's free for personal use I think, and not sure it's feature set though:

It can be done, and possibly through PlayOn, if we get some answers.
ORB is BS IMO.  Why the need for a "man in the middle" scenario to stream locally?  VLC will stream everything, both locally and remotely, -be it a local video or TV channel, or even your desktop **gratis free**.

^^ If someone w/ knowledge would address my questions, this may be easier to implement than it sounds.
I have it working via Tversity, and the Tversity crowd appear to have a good interest in this as well.

Hello,

With this new version I no longer see my .tp files.  I hope that the next version will show these again.  These files are recorded with Beyond TV and they worked until this most recent update.

Thank you in advance,

Joseph

What are you streaming to?  I use BTV and never considered streaming the recordings.  This would be sweet.

I used to stream to my xbox 360 until I updated this morning.  If I rename the .tp to .mp4 it will work on the 360.  If I rename the .tp to .mpg it will not work.  It does not even show .tp files now.  For tonight I will rename the files I want to watch to .mp4.  I hope that this can be fixed soon.

This is true for the beta playon local files program as well.  They both will accept a .tp renamed to .mp4.  Perhaps both the plugin and the main program can be changed to accept .tp.

Thank you in advance,

Joseph

I'll get the fix out for you. I had not included those file types before your post.
